#ShopDTJax For The Holidays

Holiday shopping doesn’t have to be stressful. In fact, when you #ShopDTJax, it can even be enjoyable — not to mention beneficial for the local economy. This holiday season, we’ve taken the guesswork out of Downtown shopping by curating a collection of great deals and steals for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and throughout the month of December.

“Buying gifts from Downtown’s small businesses, restaurants, and cultural organizations is an easy way to support Downtown business owners during the holiday season,” said Bill Prescott, co-founder of the Downtown Marketing Collaborative. “Downtown has more than 43,000 public parking spaces and a rich variety of retailers spread across the core business district. Shopping here is an entirely different experience from going to a big-box mall.”

Ready to shop? Visit the Downtown Vision, Inc. blog to see the full list of #ShopDTJax deals. Better yet, purchase a Downtown Vision Alliance membership (just $20 for a full year) and unlock more than 40 vendor-sponsored deals on dining, shopping and entertainment, making it easier than ever to #ShopDTJax all year long.

Happy shopping!

Spring Break “Staycation” Downtown

For parents who are staying in the Northeast Florida area for Spring Break, making plans for the week can be stressful. Luckily, Downtown Jacksonville is filled with destinations and activities that are fun for kids of all ages; and, since many activities are budget-friendly, it's easy to create a day trip or weeklong “staycation” to bust the Spring Break boredom blues.

Before you pack up the kids for your Downtown adventure, make a plan. Downtown Vision, Inc., has compiled a great set of itineraries for Downtown visitors, including two just-for-kids guides. DVI also has comprehensive guides for parking lot locations and rates. And, if you need directions when you arrive Downtown, look for one of the Downtown Ambassadors – with their bright orange shirts and friendly smiles, you can't miss them! Ambassadors can provide directions, walk with you to your destination, and even provide a handy umbrella escort if you get caught in the rain.

To help in your planning, we've compiled a list of ways to enjoy your Downtown “staycation” this Spring Break:

  • Take a tour! Jacksonville's “Top to Bottom” walking tour takes guests through some of Downtown's most historic buildings and stories, while the evening “River City Haunts” tours provide a spooky perspective on the River City. Tour dates and times vary; visit the AdLib Tours website for more information.
  • Play outside! Whether you're interested in taking a kayak tour of the St. Johns River or tossing a frisbee at Treaty Oak Park, there are many beautiful places for you to enjoy an afternoon of fresh air.
  • Eat up! The Skyline Café at 50 North Laura Street is a cafeteria-style restaurant that's open for lunch Monday through Friday. Aside from the a la carte dining (which is a versatile option for picky eaters), the jaw-dropping aerial views of the River City are worth the trip. For more dining options, consult Downtown Vision's list of restaurants to see options listed by cuisine style.
  • Read a book! Renting a book from the Jacksonville Public Library Main Branch or buying a new paperback from Chamblin's Uptown is a savvy way to keep the kids occupied on the ride home.
  • Get cultured! Downtown is home to many museums and galleries. Visit for the day, or consider a weeklong option like the Spring Into Science Camp at the Museum of Science and History or Spring Break Art Camp at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
  • Take the Skyway! Downtown's rail system is a fun and free way to get around the neighborhood. For a full list of station locations and schedules, visit the JTA website.
  • Visit the Market! Every Friday, the Jacksonville Landing hosts an outdoor market where vendors sell art, jewelry, unique gifts and more. And, every Saturday, the Riverside Arts Market serves as a lively and entertaining destination on the edge of Downtown.
  • Stay the Night! The Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront offers a “Stay and Play” package, which includes accommodations for one night (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only) and a $50 gift certificate to any restaurant at the Jacksonville Landing – all for $124. Call 904-588-1234 and request the Stay N' Play package, or book online using promo code 124LND.

Smoke IPA

Downtown Is On Fire teamed up with Intuition Ale Works to bring something entirely new to Jacksonville’s hottest neighborhood: Smoke IPA, a beer inspired by and distributed exclusively to Downtown Jacksonville.

Ben Davis, the owner and head brewer of Intuition Ale Works, created this limited-edition beer with smoked malts that give this brew a unique flavor profile marked by sweet and savory notes, similar to a ham and pineapple pizza. Smoke IPA will be delivered to a select handful of Downtown bars and restaurants in late February; and, true to its name, it is sure to vanish quickly.  Here is a full list
